Jay investigated, wrote and produced this 60 Minutes broadcast from Kabul with Dan Rather.
A former U.S. Special Forces soldier mysteriously showed up at his com-
pound in Kabul, asking if Jay was, "in a position to negotiate".
This curious fellow had obtained more than 6 hours of raw, unedited footage -- grabbed during chaos on the battlefield -- showing something never before seen: al Qaeda fighters practicing their tactics, in spectacular detail, in one of their key terrorist training camps just outside of Kabul.
The twisted negotiations for use of the footage ended with Jay landing exclusive rights for CBS; a competitive coup in the U.S. and internationally as well.
The video was so sensitive it had to be vetted by the Pentagon and the President's National Security Counsel. |
